5 Simple Tips on Rebuilding Your Life after Addiction Rehab

When completing treatment at an inpatient rehab facility, there may be a few questions that run through your mind, such as where to go from here and what to do next. At Passages, we offer a specialized continuing care service to our clients transitioning from our inpatient rehab center and returning home. This specialized and unique care helps individuals carry out the tools and therapy methods that helped them while in treatment. Besides continuing care, what should you do to stay on track with your sobriety and carry out the tools you learned from Passages to be the best of your ability? Here are five ideas that, if followed, will benefit your transition and rebuilding your life after rehab.

  1. Establish Solid Goals

You must set short-term and long-term goals for yourself. What would you like to achieve this week? What about this month? How about within the next year? Setting goals for yourself not only helps keep you focused on achieving the things you want, but it also helps give your life direction.

  1. Create Daily and Weekly Action Plans

Keeping a to-do list and an action plan handy is always a good idea and will help you stay on track with your goals and responsibilities. Write down 3-5 things per day and week you need to accomplish. Then strategize how you plan on crossing those tasks off your list. Try not to overwhelm yourself with too many things. Please keep it simple, but don’t be afraid to push a little hard to get those hard tasks done.

  1. Maintain a Healthy Diet and Exercise Regiment

Schedule 30 minutes to an hour of exercise three to five times a week, and watch your body transform and your health and confidence increase to new levels! Diet and exercise are both vital to your health and well-being. You will find that setting aside time every day to focus on fitness and nutrition is very beneficial and rewarding at the same time.

  1. Avoid Toxic Environments and Interactions

When returning home from rehab, avoiding those friends and environments is highly recommended before entering rehab. Keep in mind that this is a fresh start for you. Now that you are healed and have transformed due to intensive treatment and therapy, it would be best not to return to those same crowds and old spots you used to hang out with. Your lifestyle from when you entered rehab to when you returned home will be completely different, and for the better!

  1. Keep an Open Mind to New Relationships and Opportunities

It is essential to focus not only on the relationship you have with yourself during this time, but it is also crucial that you focus on building stable relationships with reliable and supportive ones.
