One vital element that sets Passages Malibu apart from other rehab centers is our holistic approach to healing addiction –we treat the mind, body, and spirit as a whole. We are constantly staying on top of the latest addiction treatment methods as a way to offer the most cutting-edge, non-traditional therapy. By using a creative mix of Western and Eastern philosophies, our clients are exposed to the best of both worlds and receive a diverse range of treatment at Passages.
One of the unique parts of our addiction treatment program is Sound Therapy, which has been used throughout the centuries in a variety of ways – from a gentle gong that your yoga teacher might use in class, to a singing bowl you might hear at a meditation center, to guided meditations that use nature sounds helping to soothe, ease, and relax your mind, body, and soul.
Sound Therapy results in healing at the cellular level. It uses vibrations to affect cellular resonance in the body to help heal the cellular impact of depression, anxiety, and trauma. It is also a way to enhance relaxation in massage therapy and acupuncture sessions, and at Passages Malibu it is often used to complement our spiritual counseling program.
Our in-house Spiritual Counselor, Jesse Hanson, initially brought Sound Therapy to Passages and uses a variety of instruments including quartz crystal singing bowls, didgeridoos, Native American flutes, buffalo drums, and his own voice, among other unique instruments from around the world.
"A lot of what we do at Passages is understanding the 'why' of what brings you here. But just knowing it upstairs, isn’t going to keep you sober in the real world. It needs to be connected to your heart, spirit, and soul and Sound Therapy is one way that we make that connection," he adds.
